Shane Ryan and his ghostbusting partner, Frank Benedict, have been killing ghosts all over New England. He’s always thought the jobs were random until he runs into The Watchers, an elite group who’s decided Shane is a threat to their own sinister plans. Their leader, Harlan Canus, sends Shane a gruesome message that can’t be ignored.

Marie Lafontaine joins Shane and Frank as they descend on Borgin Keep, which is set in the lush hills of Vermont. They discover The Watchers have a few ghastly secrets of their own, hidden within the chilling castle. Emmanuel Borgin, long dead, has an uneasy alliance with Watchers. Alliance or not, Shane is determined to finish the job … even if it means destroying Harlan right along with the deadly Emmanuel!

The trio searches the hidden passages and secret rooms for Emmanuel’s bones, realizing Borgin Keep is a shifting house of horrors. From the flesh-eating undead to faceless demons, Emmanuel throws his worst supernatural minions at the crew. Shane knows he’s got to stop Emmanuel and Harlan or more innocents will die, suffering unspeakable torture, and agonizing deaths.

Failure is not an option, but annihilating the uncanny ghost and his grisly castle could be the last job Shane ever completes.

I have read every book the the Berkley St series as well as the Moving In series. When a new book comes out, I’m always weary about reading it, afraid it won’t be as good as the previous books. I have yet to be disappointed. I’m not sure where Ron Ripley comes up with these ideas, but I’m addicted to the stories. I know that Shane Ryan’s story will have to end sometime, and I’ll be deeply sad, but in the meantime, keep the book coming!

Anyone who likes a good ghost story will enjoy this book, and so far not a book in the whole series has disappointed me. I strongly encourage you to read the rest if you haven’t already. Can’t wait too see what happens to Shane and Frank next!

I’ve read the entire Berkeley Street series, as well as the Moving In series, and I think this was definitely one of the better offerings. This time, former Marine Shane and his slowly growing band of willing (and unwilling) allies face their biggest challenge yet. While the ghosts of Borgin Keep are both very dangerous and very evil, Shane also must keep one step ahead of The Watchers, a ruthless and powerful organization who find him to be a threat to their shadowy goals. As always, for me the best part are the characters. Shane and his ghost-hunting partner Frank (a former soldier/former monk) are joined once again by police detective Marie LaFontaine, who is a very tough woman determined to avenge a dead friend. I’m not as fond of Shane’s girlfriend Courtney, but I understand her uses as far as character development. This is a great read, but definitely requires reading the rest of the series in order to understand it.

I thought I had a favorite Shane story but now it’s this one! Shane volunteerly continues to fight the dead that haunt him day and night! This one takes place in an old “Keep”. Shane swears he’s not leaving until it’s over! Well,.We see our hero at his best but is it enough? Time will tell! Excellent story! Ron continues to top his best!

Each one of these books gets better and better!!! I have no idea how Mr. Ripley comes up with these stories but this series is one of, if not THE best I have read hands down. Shane is just so complicated but he keeps fighting!!!! Mr. Borgin was very diabolical indeed and his keep of horrors was crazy. Anxiously, awaiting the next installment!!!!!!!!!

I really like this series and I haven’t been able to say that about any series for a while. I’ve always enjoyed supernatural “ghost” stories and I have found very few writers of that genre that keep me waiting on the edge of my seat for the next installment like Mr. Ripley does. I have all of the books in this series and all of the audiobooks too except for Borgin Keep and I will purchase that one also as soon as it is available. While there is violence in the books it is not like the gore you see in some movies on screen now. The violence is there…but it isn’t the whole story. Shane Ryan is a man whose life has never been normal by todays standards. He lives in his childhood home and it’s haunted by those that have either lived there or come onto the property for one reason or another. Other than the ghosts he has a former monk and special forces dude named Frank that lives with him and goes on his quests, jobs, adventures or whatever they are called. Add to that a Police officer, a former medic who have been known to come to Shane’s aid when needed and another friend named Brian and his wife who also are in the ghost business and you have an exciting series that keeps getting better. Add the Watchers in the mix and Boy-Howdy what a ride! If the story line has one draw back it is Shane’s relationship with former girlfriend/lover Courtney. I don’t know that they ever had a physical relationship but the relationship they have now is both toxic and very sad. I would love to see these books made in to a series for television. I’m not good at writing reviews. I just know what I like and I like these books. I think you all will too.

Wherever Shane goes I will follow. Now, with the addition of Frank, the adventures keep coming. Two unlikely friends with equally unlikely pasts make for a great story. Ron’s books are always enjoyable. The story moves smoothly without being weighed down with unnecessary words and descriptions. I read for a living so I want to be entertained not bored.

I have read all of the Berkley Street books and Shane had become like an old friend. A chain smoking, alcoholic, and rather sad old friend but a friend none the less. I love a good stand alone book but you really get to know all of the characters in a series. Creating realistic dialogue is really hard for most writers but Ron Ripley is a master. I won’t give an outline because I hate when other people do but I will highly recommend this book./whole series!!

I think this one was second only to the book that started us – & Shane – on our journeys, “Berkley Street”. That very last scene of Shane in the woods was so touching & bittersweet to me! After all the hellishness he’d just been through & all the not-so-nice things he’d just done, to be so caring to the little ones showed the dichotomy of the man. I swear, sometimes I want to smack that boy silly; other times I want to grab him & hug him & make it all better! One thing, however, bugs me: Why does it seem Shane & Marie can barely tolerate each other in this book? When & for what reasons did they develop such animosity? I feel as though I’ve missed something important.All-in-all, excellent book! I am eagerly awaiting the next in the series. (Cannot wait to see The Watchers get their comeuppance!)

Another corker! Mr Ripley never disappoints, with characters that are rich and have real heart that are plunged into a fast moving and believable horror story. He really does write the perfect story.

It was good, I have read all the others in the series and loved them but something was different about this book. Too much about the Watchers in first half of book but I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes ghost stories

The last book😿😿😿. Want more…RIPLEY!!!!Shane, Frank, Marie and more bad guys. Mayhem is during all book, I just can’t stop but Idon’t want to end😿😿😿!!!Shane, Frank, the Abad and so much bad guys that I don’t even know how all survive and other characters.Shane still isn’t invincible “super-heroe”, keep his “human traits”. He felt, cry, drank, chain-smoke & live most of his life around ghosts. How could he return, help… Love still in Shane heart or is just survivors guilt? Read it and discover!!!I enjoy all the books. Ripley, a writers that could make bad things as good things with anything. Shane and Company feel fear, stress, die of terror, suspense but never being bored. Yay…The use of few “live” characters in between the lot of “dead ones” are great. So many dead interesting ones… The plot, the characters, the atmosphere, at every book change and you know the new characters and the changes of Shane, friends and his house ghosts.Ripley is an artist moving and creating that atmosphere of threat that never leaves. Every book I read from him is better and better.I’m very honest with my Reviews, not only for me, the author or other readers, how an author know when did something good or need improvement? How another reader believe in my review? If I didn’t read the book, I don’t Review. If the book is good, Review. If the book isn’t good, Review. With that we all benefit, readers, authors & readers searching for something new or special. My opinions are my own. You can find me at Amazon under: MASTERI

It was hard to decipher who was alive and who was ghost. Both parties move intermixed. Only later in their action do you figure out who is who.

I was given a gift of the Audiobooks.com version of this book. Can this series get any creepier? If so, sign me up. In this book, Shane and Company take on their most evil adversary yet – Emmanuel Borgin – who built Borgin Keep many years earlier to imprison individuals who were judged by The Watchers to be, shall we say, less than ideal in their eyes. Borgin Keep is so evil that not even birds fly nearby. Methods of dispatching its inmates are gruesome to say the least. So, in order to continue their quest to finally defeat The Watchers and put an end to the horrors bedeviling New England once and for all, Shane and Frank, joined this time by Marie Lafontaine (the police detective introduced in earlier books), must enter and destroy Borgin Keep. An impossible task according to everyone they know.I keep thinking that Shane must be some sort of superman to survive all that has happened to him in this series. Borgin Keep is no exception. Shane gets beaten up, slammed around and generally abused throughout the book. He probably hopes that the series ends soon, even though I do not,I found this book to be faster paced than earlier books. The only negative I found was that the ending seemed a bit anticlimactic after the graphic violence earlier in the book. The bonus chapters at the end of the book lead directly into the final book, as one might expect. I liked it enough to give it five stars.
