Ex-marine Shane Ryan is a ghost hunter whose troubled past haunts him almost as much as the ghosts he encounters in the line of duty. He’s the best. And his reward for excellence? The punishment of being in high demand for jobs to eradicate the worst kind of ghosts – the kind that kill.

His latest assignment is an idyllic island setting with sunny skies, crystal blue ocean and a venerable old lighthouse that makes the scenery picture perfect … except for the malevolent, murderous ghosts marring the living portrait. If Amy, the owner, wasn’t Marie Lafontaine’s cousin, Shane would have steered clear of Squirrel Island and its diabolical dead. But Detective Lafontaine is his do-or-die friend. He’d do anything for her. Even face Dorothy, the undead Evilena who kills anyone invading her unholy domain. Add two shipwrecked couples to the mix and Shane has more trouble than he wants to handle.

Shane’s mission is clear: rid the island of Dorothy and her band of undead while keeping his new charges alive. But how could he know that staying alive meant facing the worst evil ever imagined?

I really like how Shane Ryan’s character is fleshing out and becoming even more interesting. He is smart, tough, and willing to do the hard job. He’s even a hero of sorts, at least a dark one. Really enjoying this new series and have already pre ordered the next book. Ron Ripley is becoming a must buy author for me! Haven’t been disappointed yet.

I read this in one day (& I’m a slow reader). It was THAT good. The tension & suspense kept building higher & higher until the denouement (which I shall refrain from spoiling). This story was truly a wild ride, & I am very eagerly awaiting the third episode of this series!

The best yet!!!!! I’ve read many lighthouse horror stories but this has to be one of the best. There is so much thought put into this story!!!!! It’s so original and Shane is like the best hero. He’s a real flawed man but I wouldn’t want anyone else on my side fighting ghosts!!! Can’t wait for the next book!!!!!

As usual Ron Ripley delivers! I am a true readaholic and l love a good supernatural story. I know the protagonist from Berkley Street and I was pleased to get to know him a little better. Great tale and strong characters! I NEVER include spoilers and I won’t start now. Enjoy!

I really liked this book. I like reading about the strange and usual ghost stories. I think Ron Ripley does an excellent job of continuing the storyline from the first book to this one. His characters are always memorable and I love reading more about them with each new book.

Aaaah! I love it! Creepy and at times gory but scary still the same. Shane Ryan is the new hero in Ron Ripley’s world and I’m loving him. It’s hard to top Moving In and I don’t even want to go there but I’m putting this series right up there with it. So good!

    This is a very interesting series about ghosts. The storyline flows evenly all the way through. The storyteller has a very vivid imagination. The characters /😕 are entertaining and too die for. Pun intended. A must read for all ghost [email protected]{https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71PEhfQcoWL._SL1000_.jpg};

This is my first Ron Ripley read, although I did buy one quite some time ago. I chose this for my Prime book of the month expecting a good ghost story and set my curiosity for Berkley Street. Also the setting of a lighthouse, which I love really got my attention. I have to admit, initially I was turned off with the bickering ghost hunters and then the graphic violence as I thought all the characters weren’t going to survive the first couple chapters, Then less than halfway through the book after all the protagonists were deceased and joined by a milieu of paranormal occurrences and specters, the story picked up quickly into a true page turner. It took me awhile to warm up to Shane Ryan a true ghostbuster and his surviving investigator, Courtney. Who was all these killer ghosts and why did they worship this one Dorothy who held them to Squirrel Island where this lighthouse was. We slowly learn of their history but are always reminded of the power of Dorothy and her menacing presence as well as her ability to get the other ghosts both old and well, fresh from the killings to obey her whims in continuing her killings for whatever reason. Since Shane was only set to be on the island for a day or so to look into a contractor’s suicide and make sure the island is in ship shape for the new owner, we are comforted by the fact that he and his entourage will be rescued. Or will they. This is when pages couldn’t turn fast enough as new action, explanations and plot twists abound. I won’t reveal anymore to spoil anything. I have to admit since this wasn’t my cup of tea in ghost stories, I was going to be generous with maybe a three star rating. I really have to compliment Ron Ripley and his writing skills as well as fertile imagination giving the standard ghost story a new boost. A nice change. I do recommend this as I see so many others have also enjoyed this book and his others, I will probably read Berkley Street and did download a bonus book so I guess Ron Ripley has found a new fan, I’ll return to my more common just scary ghost stories but rest assured I’ll know where to look when I need a change and a bit more action.

Love the storyline, held my interest. Good editing. I would like more of the background of the characters. This would extend the book and make it five stars.

Another fantastic book by Ron Ripley, I love his stories and I love his characters!! The ghosts are often as lovable as the living, often far more detestable and frightening than anyone breathing ever could be!! I look forward to the next in this series as well as the other series Ron has written! Thank you for writing great stories Mr. Ripley!!

How wonderful to have Shane back! If your not familiar with book 1, Shane is our main character. He’s been seeing the dead since he was a child. Lots of new characters brought in. Gore in spots but I still think it’s mature kid acceptable. Mostly Interaction between the living and the dead. I enjoyed it very much. Good job!

I love Ron Ripley’s series of ghosts and characters. Shane is not your typical ex-marine but very down to earth and a ghost hunter. Shane is on deserted island with a lighthouse and many different ghosts, some mean and others likeable. Recommend you read the 1st book in the series Berkley Street then this one I cannot wait for 3rd book The Town of Griswold to be audiobook. I also recommend his Moving In series. These series are for anyone who enjoys horror/ghost stories.

So Shane’s back but this time he is dealing with something even worse!! He is asked to help with a haunted lighthouse, which seems easy enough, but it’s anything but. This island is riddled with the dead. What could possibly happen to Shane on a remote island filled with the dead?? 😉 Well, read it to see!!!!Here’s me thinking that Berkley Street was scary, well welcome to The Lighthouse!! A place that is so captivating, you won’t want to leave, well Dorothy doesn’t give you much choice!! If you enter her domain, you are there to stay. When Shane gets there, he realises the scope of the problem, but he knows that he will only be there a day or two and some one will check on him, when no one does though, and two couples wind up washed ashore, Shane sees that there is more going on than meets the eye. With people being killed, can Shane figure things out before it’s too late!!Shane is just as awesome as the first book! He visits the Lighthouse as a favour to Detective Lafontaine, otherwise he would have stayed away!! He really grows as a character in this book, he is brave, selfless and does what he needs to in order to survive and help others. In all, this was terrifying!! Dorothy was truly evil!! Finding out what she was like when she was alive was heartbreaking, but pales in comparison to what she does when she is dead! Lighthouses can be creepy places at the best of times, but add in lots of ghosts, and you have a chilling tale that will leave you wanting to sleep with the lights on.Thom Bowers really knows how to bring a terrifying tale to life. He ramps up the tension when needed and did a great job with the atmosphere. Really enjoyed his narration and need to check out more from him.*I received a free copy of this but voluntarily reviewed it. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.*

The LighthouseBy: Ron RipleyGenre: HorrorShane Ryan is a ghost hunter, by default. In book one of this series, Berkley Street, Shane moved back into his childhood and had to face—and conquer—the myriad ghosts there. In The Lighthouse, Shane is doing a favor for a friend. He maroons himself on a small island inhabited by a Lighthouse…and hundreds of ghosts. It’s his job to find out what they all want…and to stop the killing.I recently bought this book on AUDIBLE. It’s Ron Ripley’s first book in this series, Berkley Street, and I fell in love with this character, Shane Ryan. I am STILL in love with this character. Shane is a deeply troubled guy with a wildly horrific past. He can be cruel and violent. Angry and resentful. Yet, he’s also witty and kind and personable. He’s romantic and caring. In other words, he’s a fully developed person. When reading about Shane, because of the author’s writing skill, I feel like I’m peeking into the life of a real person.I really enjoy Mr. Ripley’s writing. His story lines are exciting and dreadful—just as they should be—while not being overly gory or gross. There is tension within the story that keeps the reader on the edge of the seat.Dorothy, the evil ghost of a truly hideous human being, is frighteningly wicked. The things she was capable of while living—and now dead—are just horrible. You the reader love to hate her. This is a fun read.My favorite author is Stephen King. Mr. Ripley’s work reminds me, a little, of Mr. King’s early work. That’s a big compliment in my world.Looking forward to the next book in this series, The Town of Griswold. PLUS, I’ve just discovered that Mr. Ripley has MANY other books to read. I’m in heaven!

I listened to the Audiobooks edition of this book. It was a gift in exchange for a review. I listened to this one after Number 3, so it was a bit out of sequence. That did not lessen my enjoyment of the book however. It could work as a stand-alone but there are references to events and characters in the first book of the series. As with the other books in the series, there is gore and violence in the story. Ripley’s ghosts do not kill gently or with mercy. The killings are brutal and often bloody, but this is, after all, a horror story.I am enjoying the audio versions of these stories. The narrator is very good with regional accents and voice inflections. This adds to the story.I would recommend this series to anyone who likes a good ghost story or horror in general. They make you want more of it and that’s what a series is supposed to do.

The 1st book in the series was so good that I couldn’t wait to start reading this 2nd book. I am very disappointed. What happened to the authors style and flowing storyline? Smooth easy to follow yet witty enough to make one feel part of the story? This 2nd book is comic book quality at best. Sorry Ron. Ain’t buying no more books from you. Couldn’t finish book 2 either.

This is the 2nd book in the Berkley Street series. The characters are getting better with more information about their pasts. I really enjoy reading an old fashioned gritty ghost story, and the reluctant hero is priceless.

I’ve read book one in the Berkley Street Series and now book two. Book three is being downloaded as I type this review. Ripley quickly pulls you in and, much like the otherworldly beings in his story, does not let you go so easily. You will remain enraptured throughout the reading of this finely crafted tale. As a matter of fact, just save yourself the trouble and download the whole series at once.

So, I really enjoyed the first book, once I started reading the next one, I was pretty disappointed. It appears that at some point between the first and second book, there was a bunch of character development, even stories that were just never really covered between the two.Somehow Shane has become a part time ghost hunter, he’s learning the trade and we aren’t really told anything about it.He had a relationship going with a character from the previous book and it’s never properly explained. The dark ones in the fruit celler are never discussed again. They don’t even expand on Shane’s parents more. All of this is absurd. It’s like the writer didn’t want to go to thr trouble of actually explaining Shane’s character growth. Instead they just kind of throw it at you with no real explanations at all.Sloppy writing at best.

Kept me reading well into the night. So far I have liked all of his books. I am reading the Berkley Street series and also the Moving In series. A friend of mine read the first one in the Berkley Street and didn’t care for it, but I loved it. So, it all depends on your individual likes and dislikes. I look forward to the next one.

The ocean, a lighthouse and ghosts. What can be scarier? Trapped with no sign of rescue and killer ghosts all around. This story is scary with some hints of reality to it. It is so easy to get sucked into the plot. This author is so good you loose track of time while reading his books.

I just finished The Lighthouse, book 2 in the Berkley St. Series and it scared me as badly as book 1 did. The stories are so scary that I will remember certain parts for days on end Ripley gives you just enough detail that I feel as if I am seeing it all first hand. These are not for the ” faint of heart” they are great stories but very scary and I can’t wait to start book 3. You do not want to miss the Moving In series either a different main character and it has ghosts also but also some other paranormal beings.Keep up the great work Ron Ripley, I’m in awe!

You had to love or hate this genre. For me is LOVE AT 1ST SIGHT with Riple’s writing. The main character isn’t an invincible “super-heroe”, had many “human faults”. That make the approach to him more easy. He felt, cry, drank, chain-smoke & live most of his life around ghosts. How could he return, help… Suffering PTSD, Depression. This time loose a love interest and the rest isn’t history is a well wtitten book.I can’t stop, I been reading them in order and love every second of it.I had all his books. Think I will enjoy reading them all!!! Don’t let anyone told you. Buy the books and enjoy.Ron Ripley is one of those writers that could make anything with little or big things. You could feel fear, stress, die of terror, suspense but never being bored. Yay for Shane. The use of few “live” characters in between the lot of “dead ones” are great. So many dead interesting ones… The plot, the characters, the atmosphere, at every book change and you know the new characters and the changes of Shane, friends and his house ghosts.Ripley is an artist moving and creating that atmosphere of threat that never leaves. Every book I read from him is better and better.I could say many things from the book, but where is the fun in telling that you could read and enjoy?I’m very honest with my Reviews, not only for me, the author or other readers, how an author know when did something good or need improvement? How another reader believe in my review? If I didn’t read the book, I don’t Review. If the book is good, Review. If the book isn’t good, Review. With that we all benefit, readers, authors & readers searching for something new or special. My opinions are my own. You can find me at Amazon under: MASTERI

I’m listening to this series in its Aubile.com iteration. I bought the additional volumes on strength of the first. The first was really entertaining. This second one though – while the voice narration/acting is on par with the first – I’m not sure how it got published.Overflowing with cardboard characters who exhibit lunatic & preposterous behaviors in the face of supernatural adversity, it is patently ludicrous and is so nearly continuously. This has the effect of popping me out of the action again and again with exclamations like “WTF?” and “Oh c’mon!” and “Seriously?”Not to mention it seems to be essentially the same book as the first with minor deviations, less effort and in a different locale.I will push on through as I’ve already paid and hope the series regains some of the promise of the first volume, but I have grave (pun intended) doubts.
